New testing procedures for fully-vaccinated, eligible visitors to England

Further to the exciting news in December that SA has been removed from the red list, the UK has announced that, as of 09 January 2022, new testing procedures will be put in place, doing away with pre-departure testing for fully-vaccinated travellers.

According to a press release on the United Kingdom’s public sector information website, “A lateral flow test can be used instead of PCR tests for eligible fully vaccinated travellers and over 5s to take on or before day two.

Eligible fully vaccinated travellers and under 18s will no longer have to take a pre-departure test or self-isolate on arrival in England – returning to the travel rules that were in place before Omicron.”

You will find all pertinent information regarding the new testing procedures on the gov.uk website.

If you are travelling, it is crucial that you check on the situation and have all necessary paperwork in order, as British TIPS cannot be held responsible for failure to travel if passengers have not confirmed and adhered to all requirements. All other usual travel rules apply, including valid passport, visa requirements, etcetera, and that being vaccinated is not the only criteria required to enter United Kingdom.
