Kew Gardens

A spectacular botanic garden of 300 acres designated as a UNESCO World Heritage site, with over 50,000 living plants. 6 magnificent glasshouses set in a beautiful landscape beside the River Thames between Richmond and Kew in south-west London. Kew Palace, set within the Gardens, is an elegant mansion built in 1631 for the Royal Family.

Note: Kew Palace and Royal Kitchens are open from Easter until the last weekend in September annually.

Chelsea Physic Garden

This gorgeous garden bursting with medicinal plants, is tucked away behind an unassuming brick wall in the suburb of Chelsea, and is London’s oldest botanical gardens. It was established in 1673 by the Worshipful Society of Apothecaries to grow plants to be used as medicine by the physicians of the day. Today, the garden contains over 5 000 useful plants. 90 minutes is the recommended visit time.

Open Monday to Friday and Sunday 10h00 – 17h00 (last entry 30 minutes before closing). Closed on Saturdays. Physic Garden Café provides light meals and snacks, and the gift shop has lots to choose from.

Garden Museum

An unusual museum celebrating the history of British gardens, this is a must-visit for gardening fans. Previously known as The Museum of Garden History, the museum is the only museum of the history, art, and design of gardens in Britain. The museum’s main gallery is located in the St Mary-at-Lambeth Church, alongside Lambeth Palace, and features a collection of gardening ephemera. Three exhibition spaces are dedicated to different aspects of plants and gardens, and exhibitions change six-monthly. Surrounding the museum are peaceful gardens, recently redesigned in 2017. A wonderful time out from the bustle of London.
